LABI & FUEL Partner to Boost State’s Workforce, Expand Energy Dominance

A major boost for Louisiana’s energy future was announced Tuesday as the Future Use of Energy in Louisiana (FUEL) initiative—led by—secured a $45 million funding renewal from the National Science Foundation to accelerate energy innovation and workforce development statewide.

As part of the renewed effort, the LABI Foundation is partnering with FUEL to deepen industry engagement and expand internships and apprenticeships in the energy sector, helping employers grow existing programs and launch new work-based learning opportunities.

This partnership directly advances LABI’s Program of Work by strengthening the connection between education and careers. It complements our push for policies—like a modernized K-12 accountability formula—that promote early exposure to industry pathways and ensure students graduate with in-demand, real-world skills.

Just as importantly, this collaboration supports a core LABI priority: expanding Louisiana’s energy dominance through an all-of-the-above approach. By connecting students with hands-on experience across the state’s diverse energy sector, this initiative helps build the talent pipeline needed to support innovation, attract investment and grow high-wage, high-demand careers in Louisiana.
