BATON ROUGE, La. – SouthPAC, a political action committee of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), announced its endorsement of Judge William “Billy” Burris in his candidacy for election to the District 1 seat of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
“Judge Burris has capably served the people of Louisiana as a district court judge for the last eight years,” said Wayne Fontana, chair of SouthPAC. “His nearly 20 years of legal experience and his performance as a judge for Louisiana’s 22nd Judicial District Court demonstrates a proven track record of fair-minded deliberation in cases and adherence to the rule of law. Judge Burris respects the roles of the three branches of our government. He recognizes his role as a judge is to interpret the law and not legislate it from the bench.”
“We encourage the business community in Supreme Court District 1 to support Judge Burris for election,” Jim Patterson, Interim Executive Director of Political Action for LABI said. “The business community must support candidates who will be conscientious jurists and apply the law in a fair and balanced manner. Judge Burris has a history of rulings that display his intellectual leadership on the bench. We are proud to support such a qualified judge for election to our highest court.”
A native of Franklinton, Judge Burris graduated magna cum laude from Southern University Law Center and began his legal career as an attorney at a law firm in Baton Rouge before opening his own practice in his hometown of Franklinton. He was elected to the district court bench in 2017 and sworn into office in January of 2018. In his personal life, Judge Burris has held numerous positions in the legal field and within his community. He served on the House of Delegates for the Louisiana Bar Association. He also served as President of the Franklinton Chamber of Commerce and is a former member of both the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.
SouthPAC is made up of businessmen and businesswomen seeking to support electable candidates who embrace free-market principles and stand ready to protect the reforms enacted by the Legislature to grow Louisiana’s economy and keep our families here.
District 1 of the Louisiana Supreme Court was recently redrawn by the legislature (Act 7 of the 2024 Regular Session) and includes the parishes of Livingston, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington, as well as a portion of Orleans Parish.
SouthPAC is a non-partisan political action committee working to recruit and support candidates who promote a free enterprise market with as little government interference as possible.
