BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) released the following statement in response to the governor’s proposed changes to Louisiana’s tax system.
A key pillar of LABI’s LA Driven strategic plan is a fair, predictable, and modern tax code that promotes economic competitiveness. Louisiana’s current system is complex and burdensome, putting our state at a disadvantage regionally and nationally. If we want to compete with neighboring states, we must simplify and streamline Louisiana’s tangled tax code while eliminating our franchise and inventory taxes and centralizing our local sales tax collection system.
LABI is encouraged by the administration’s and the legislature’s commitment to tackle tax reform. Louisiana citizens and business owners deserve a straightforward tax code that considers a present-day economy.
We look forward to reviewing the administration’s proposed plan with our members and providing valuable feedback to legislative leadership.
