LABI Commends State Plan to Re-Open Schools Safely

June 25, 2020

Baton Rouge, LA (June 25, 2020) – The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) commends the Louisiana Departments of Education and Health for releasing a detailed plan to re-open schools across the state.

“Public health officials and education leaders should be commended for prioritizing a safe re-opening for public schools,” said LABI Senior Vice President Camille Conaway. “Experts nationwide point to the need to balance immediate health risks with the long-term physical and mental health of our students, and this plan offers detailed safety guidance to best support student learning in-person as well as policies for high-quality hybrid and virtual learning when necessary.”

In April, LABI issued a series of recommendations to address challenges across Louisiana's educational system, including early childhood, K-12 and higher education, as well as workforce development. To read LABI's complete recommendations, click HERE.

Conaway added: “Tens of thousands of Louisianans have worked safely throughout the COVID crisis. Safe school re-opening is critical not just to allow for more parents to return to work and support their families, but to ensure our students do not fall further behind.”
