Gov. Landry opens session with joint address

Shortly after 1 P.M. Monday, Gov. Jeff Landry took to the House dais to address a joint session of the legislature to outline his agenda for the 2026 session. Before laying out those priorities, the governor commended the legislature for the economic, education, civil justice and tax reforms passed in the first two years of his administration.

Major agenda items he mapped out included strengthening the LAGATOR program, aligning education and workforce goals to streamline efficiencies and filling the needs of our modern economy—a priority outlined in LABI’s LA Driven strategic plan—and eliminating the state’s income tax.

LABI applauds Gov. Landry for proposing a major increase in funding for the successful M.J. Foster Promise Program. LABI’s 2026 Program of Work, calls for continued, significant investment in the program. To address our workforce shortage, which lags well below the national average, it is crucial that every Louisianan has access to, and preparation for, high-wage, high-demand jobs. As the governor mentioned in his address, there are numerous pathways into the labor force, and we must expand resources for education opportunities that prepare students.

Roughly an hour after entering the House Chamber, Gov. Landry closed his speech with additional session objectives of his administration: improving healthcare outcomes and reforming the state’s judiciary.

As LABI advocates on behalf of jobs creators statewide, we look forward to opportunities to collaborate with the administration with the shared goal of sustaining Louisiana’s momentum, increasing investment opportunities and securing the state’s reputation as a place to do business.
