
It was a successful afternoon on the House Floor Wednesday, where four LA Driven-Approved workforce development measures were swiftly passed with broad bipartisan support. This marks the Legislature’s latest recognition that career readiness is essential to Louisiana’s economic growth. The following four bills will now head to the Senate to be introduced before being scheduled for committee hearings.
HB 268 by Rep. Kim Carver (R-Mandeville) expands and aligns career exposure requirements for students in grades 6-8. Additionally, it requires K-5 schools to provide students with at least one career-related activity each year. It passed, 99-0.
HB 271 by Rep. John Wyble (R-Bogalusa) creates the Louisiana Commission on Foundational Education to research and analyze policies on foundational education initiatives and instructional practices, while strengthening family engagement. The House approved it, 91-3.
HB 285 by Tony Bacala (R-Prairieville) allows school boards to partner with credit unions and banks to open branches inside high schools. This legislation passed, 99-0.
HB 649 by Rep. Ken Brass (D-Vacherie) requires the establishment and administration of a statewide application process for students to access dual enrollment programs. The final vote tally was 101-0.
