To Mark America 250, LABI Bringing Civics Bee to Louisiana

While we will publicly launch and announce this initiative later this week, we wanted to share it with our members first: Louisiana students will soon have the opportunity to vie for a spot in the National Civics Bee, with the LABI Foundation serving as host for the Louisiana State Civics Bee.

This exciting launch comes at a meaningful moment as our nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. As we approach this milestone, there is no better time to invest in strengthening civic knowledge, engagement and responsibility among the next generation of Louisianans.

The Civics Bee is a nationwide competition designed to encourage middle school students to deepen their understanding of American civics, engage constructively in their communities and develop the skills needed to become informed, responsible citizens. By promoting civic literacy at an early age, the program helps strengthen the foundation for Louisiana’s future workforce and leadership pipeline.

Students in grades 6–8 will submit an essay identifying a problem in their community and proposing a solution rooted in civic engagement. Finalists will advance to compete in a live, in-person state competition, with the state champion earning a spot at the national championship and the chance to win scholarships and prizes.

This initiative aligns with LABI’s long-standing commitment to education, workforce development and strengthening the civic fabric that supports a thriving business climate. More details on participation and timelines will be shared soon as we formally launch the program statewide.

Local and regional chambers across Louisiana play a critical role in identifying and advancing student participants to the state competition. To learn more about the process and competition, click HERE.
